Ok, I guess that I should put one of 'these' pages on here, saying who I am, what I do, etc. My full name is Elliott White III, though I go by Eli. The quick background is that I grew up in West Virginia, and attended West Virginia University where I got my degree in Computer Science. After jumping around a few jobs, I settled at the Space Telescope Science Institute where I worked for 6 years. I was an Internet/Web programmer there, and worked on such websites as HubbleSite, specifically putting alot of work into their press release system, visible in HubbleSite's NewsCenter. I then worked for a little more than a year at at Fieldstone Mortgage Company as a Senior Internet Programmer. Currently I work for digg.com where I like to call myself a "PHP Hacker", and my actual job title or duties has changed multiple times over the years. Afterall, I was the 2nd/3rd programmer (depending on who you ask), so I've really done just about everything there is to do at Digg. Including at various points in time being in charge of the Maintenance Team, Administrative Interfaces, Infrastructure, 3rd party integration, and more.
Beyond that, I tend to keep myself busy (too busy perhaps) with many hobbies and interests. The primary 'hobby' — though I would consider it a lifestyle — is my involvement with the Society for Creative Anachronism. This non-profit organization, known as the SCA, does historical reinactment of the middle ages and the renaissance. It's partially why I consider it a lifestyle instead of a hobby. There are so many different aspects of middle ages to explore, that you can never get bored within the SCA. In addition, given that there are multiple meetings a week in my local group — the Barony of Highland Foorde — as well as full events every weekend within driving distance, there is never a dull moment. Within the SCA I am known as The Honorable Lord Siegfried Sebastian Faust, and I participate in Full contact sword combat, fencing, brewing, archery, and more. My primary activity is archery, as I love shooting medieval crossbows, and in fact started making my ownreplica medieval crossbows for use and sale.
I have other hobbies as well. I play computer video games, though lately I've been much more into console gaming. I also do other woodworking besides making crossbows. My wife (Heather) and I also got hooked on Geocaching a while back and do it when we find a free day. Though having a recent addition to our family (Ramsey) has made it a little harder to go hiking through the woods.
Ok, I guess that wraps me up nicely enough for now. I'll be surprised if anyone really reads this page fully anyway. If you did and you wish to contact me, you can at eli
